Bouchaine Vineyards: A Hidden Gem in Napa Valley’s Carneros Region

We recently had the pleasure of visiting Bouchaine Vineyards, nestled in the picturesque Carneros region of Napa Valley, and discovered a true gem worth adding to any wine lover’s itinerary.

Set across 100 acres of beautiful vineyard land, Bouchaine has a rich history dating back to the 1800s. For the past 40 years, the winery has been owned by Gerret and Tatiana Copeland of Wilmington, Delaware, who have helped establish its reputation as one of Carneros’ distinguished wine producers.

The vineyard’s spectacular setting overlooks San Francisco Bay and San Pablo Bay, where cool coastal breezes and morning fog create the ideal growing conditions for exceptional grapes. This unique terroir is reflected in the character and quality of Bouchaine’s wines.

Specializing in small-lot production, Bouchaine produces more than 20 acclaimed wines, including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Meunier and Merlot. Beyond its impressive wine collection, the winery offers a variety of distinctive tasting experiences, including its popular Falconry in the Garden, offered on Fridays.

Our visit was especially memorable. We enjoyed a leisurely tasting on the beautiful outdoor terrace, overlooking the rolling vineyards and taking in the spectacular surroundings. Our host for the afternoon was our longtime friend, Bill Farmer, a true wine connoisseur who made the experience even more enjoyable.

Our tasting began with the 2025 Vin Gris Rosé Pinot Noir Estate, a crisp, refreshing start to the afternoon. We followed with the 2024 Crescendo Chardonnay Estate and the 2022 Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay—both outstanding expressions of Chardonnay.

Next came three Pinot Noirs: the 2023 Dijon Pinot Noir Estate, 2023 Pompard Pinot Estate and 2023 Catera Pinot Noir Estate. Each offered its own distinctive personality, but the Dijon Pinot Noir was our clear favorite. Naturally, we couldn’t resist bringing a bottle home to Danville.

We concluded the tasting with the 2022 Syrah Estate, which was nothing short of sensational. It was so memorable that we brought home another bottle to share with our fellow wine enthusiasts.

Bouchaine Vineyards delivered everything we love about Wine Country: beautiful scenery, exceptional wines, warm hospitality and wonderful company. It was an afternoon to savor, and one we would happily repeat.

Our recommendation? Put Bouchaine Vineyards on your Napa Valley bucket list. Whether you’re a seasoned wine enthusiast or simply looking for a memorable Wine Country experience, this special destination is well worth a visit.
