"Edgewood Lake Tahoe Tournament Turns 21"-

The American Century Celebrity Golf Championship at Edgewood Lake Tahoe celebrated it's 21th Anniversary with 80 celebrities including athletes, coaches, actors, musicians, TV personalities and politicians.  Perfect weather blessed this fun tournament on the edge of beautiful Lake Tahoe and cut thru the massive pine trees that gives a special feeling of peace and tranquility.  Lance Armstrong's Cancer foundation is the charity and it is also televised on the NBC with a purse of $600,000.

Some of the crowd favorite stars include Charles Barley, "MJ" Michael Jordan,  Jack Wagner, Tony Romo and Joe Theisman to name a few. This year my son "MJ" Mc Colgan(National Special Olympics Golf Champion) had the opportunity to get up close and personal with many of these celebrities playing in the Pro-Am.  This year we were paired with NFL All-Pro quarterback Joe Theisman. Joe has been playing in this event for 20 years and enjoys the total experience of this special tournament.  He is a 3 handicap and very outgoing and friendly. Our playing partner Bill Hulbert and Roberta Waterman very also very impressed with Joe's golf game and kind demeanor. Roberta received the opportunity to play in the event as a present from her family who followed every step of the round and made for a very supportive gallery. It proved to be very positive support as our team finished second in the Pro-Am and winning $400. 00 each.  My game was highlighted by a near "Ace" on the signature 17th hole that is flanked by the mountains and beautiful Lake Tahoe. During the actual tournament, anyone that gets an Ace on this hole wins1 million dollars.

If you have not attended this great event, you should put it on your calendar as the weather is better than perfect in July and the celebrities are very accessible on the course, in the restaurants and casinos.  In addition the 19th Hole Brooks Bar complete with fire pits and famous mojitos overlooks the lake with the mountains smiling in the background. This bar has also been voted  in the top 50 best 19th holes in America and a great place to watch the stars on the putting green and driving range before they begin their round. My wife Linda likes to camp out near the beach and green on the par 5 18th hole.  The shade of the massive pine trees and backdrop of the stunning wood and stone club house and restaurant with angular large glass windows overlooking the deep blue lake makes for a perfect place to enjoy the day.

In conclusion, mark your calendars for 2011 as the dates for the 22st Celebrity tournament will be July 12-17.  All I can promise you is that you will be surrounded by many "happy people" at a place that ranks high on God's list of beautiful places. The "kind karma" resonates to even the phone operators at many hotels answering cheerfully, "it is a beautiful day at the lake, how can I help you today?"
